Description: Students develop advanced tactical theory and practice, including small group attacking, small group defending, team attacking and team defending. Primary emphasis on tactics and strategy within the game. (CSU, UC-with unit limitation)

Course Objectives

1. Describe and perform advanced futsal attacking and defensive formations and strategies.
2. Outline the international futsal rules.
3. Analyze and execute tactical decision based on the 3rd of the field.
4. Evaluate and select advanced futsal skills to allow intra-class competition stressing team play.
5. Demonstrate when to transition and movement off the ball.
6. Compose and perform advanced principles of attack and defense as they pertain to set pieces.

      • Classroom Discussions
        • Example: Following a lecture on awareness to transition and movement off the ball, the instructor will lead a discussion on ball movement for various scenarios. Students will be evaluated based on correct responses.
      • Problem Solving Examinations
        • Example: Student will pass a problem solving exam. Sample question: What is the difference between high pressure defending and low pressure defending?
      • Skill Demonstrations
        • Example: Student will be able to successfully play a combination involving at least three players and attempt a shot on goal. Students will be graded on their ability to correctly analyze the situation and make the correct decision.

      Activity:

      1. Instructor will facilitate a class discussion on the importance of correct offense and defensive strategy. The students will be put into small groups and given a game situation. The students will construct an appropriate offense and defense which they will report to the class.
      2. Instructor will present a lecture/discussion on laws of the game. Students will be assigned a law of the game to analyze and present.
      3. Students will be assigned an attacking set piece and will need to develop a play to attempt a shot on goal.

      Distance Learning

      1. Discussion by the instructor on advanced futsal attacking and defensive formations and strategies. The students discuss this topic in small groups.
      2. Instructor will lead a discussion on tactical decisions based on the 3rd of the field. The students will discuss this topic in small groups.

      1. Read analysis and statistics of a futsal match provided by the instructor; then break down the offensive and defensive components. 2. Read instructor provided material on team offense and defense set pieces and be prepared to discuss in class.

      1. Watch a futsal match and complete a match analysis in 2-3 pages. 2. Write a 2-page paper describing the role of the pivot in a 1-2-1 formation and pivot's attacking and defensive responsibilities.
