Catalog Description

Hours: 18 lecture per unit
Description: Examines various topics within the field of women's and gender studies. Different issues will be covered based on the interests and expertise of the faculty teaching the course. Approaches topics from broadly intersectional perspectives using feminist concepts and methods. Potential topics include: Disability, Death and Caregiving; Gender and Creativity; Masculinity; Gender and Wellness; Feminism War; Gender and Social Movements; Gender Human Rights; Reproductive Justice; New Feminisms. (CSU)

Course Student Learning Outcomes

  • CSLO #1: Evaluate the social construction of gender and explore how it pertains to the particular inquiry of study undertaken.
  • CSLO #2: Apply cross-cultural, transnational or global awareness to "significant questions" concerning women and gender.
  • CSLO #3: Appraise gendered construction of knowledge and social institutions and how they directly apply to the subject under scrutiny.

Course Objectives

1. Explain feminist principles presented in the course as they pertain to one of the topics under scrutiny.

2. Utilize, analyze, and evaluate literature pertinent to the concepts presented in the course.

3. Utilize the vocabulary and forms of feminist critical analysis pertinent t the content of the course.

          1. The Instructor presents a showcase of ideas related to the course topic and engages the class in a discussion.

          Distance Learning

          1. The instructor posts several salient media articles on the learning management system and writes relevant prompts. Students chose one article and prompt from the options provided. Using Critical Feminist Theory, students participate in an online discussion of their chosen article.

          Students will write a review of relevant articles on a course topic.
