This course provides students with hands-on experience as Behavioral Technicians in a professional setting under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Program Specialist. Students will complete a minimum of 40 hours of practical work, focusing on measurement and documentation of behaviors, reporting, assessments, skill acquisition, behavior reduction, and adherence to professional conduct, ethical responsibilities, and decision-making protocols. Upon successful completion of the course and the associated competency forms, students will be eligible to sit for the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) examination administered by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and qualify as a Registered Behavior Technician. Students will demonstrate proper data collection and program implementation: behavioral measurement, assessment, skill acquisition and behavior reduction. Students will demonstrate correct techniques when performing program lessons on clients from a variety of age groups and medical conditions, using appropriate communication strategies Students will practice the correct administrative skills of a behaviorist such as answering phones, emailing clients, documenting sessions, completing data correctly and accurately, and communicating with clients, colleagues, and supervisors professionally. Students will identify the values of the workplace and answer discussion questions regarding similarities and differences in their personal and professional values. Students will demonstrates an understanding of the ethical and legal issues related to information technology and answer discussion questions regarding these issues. Students will demonstrate HIPAA regulations when working with clients respecting the patients’ right to privacy at all times. Students will demonstrate time-management and prioritization by completing their assignments before the deadline. The instructor will provide a list of specific questions to guide the content of their reflection presentations. Each presentation will be evaluated using a detailed scoring rubric. Sample Question: How did you address any conflicts encountered during your practicum, and what was the outcome or resolution? Repeatable No Methods of Instruction Laboratory Distance Learning Lab: Instructor Expectations: Instructors will establish rapport with clinical sites and identify requirements with externship sites in order to set-up placements prior to class starting. The Instructor will clearly communicate the externship and class expectations and requirements during the initial meeting and in the LMS Canvas class. Student Expectations: Students will attend a class meeting discussing the expectations and requirements for the externship, then students will submit the required forms on-time prior to the start date. Students will complete 40-lab hours in a clinical setting approved by the instructor, complete timesheets and log, then have their supervisor complete the evaluation form along with other assignments prior to the deadline. Distance Learning Instructor Expectations: Upon completion of the required externship, Instructor will review the evaluation and competency checklist that the preceptor completed of the student's required skills and performance. The instructor will monitor student progress through regular communication with the preceptor via email, phone, reading the weekly logs through the LMS class, and site visits. Student expectations: Maintain a Daily Log: Record all skills performed on a daily log sheet. Submit Weekly Journal Articles: Provide journal articles on a weekly basis for review. Review Online Materials: Engage with provided online resources. Present a Final Project: Deliver a final project as a culmination of their practicum experience. Specific Requirements: Lab Hours: Complete 40 lab hours in a behavioral therapeutic environment, ensuring accurate daily time-sheet entries and supervisor evaluations. Task Completion: Successfully perform tasks related to measurement, assessment, skill acquisition, behavior reduction, and professionalism. Submission of Documentation: Submit all required forms and documents to the instructor and prepare a PowerPoint presentation summarizing the externship experience.
