General Education Information Approved College Associate Degree GE Applicability CSU GE Applicability (Recommended-requires CSU approval) Cal-GETC Applicability (Recommended - Requires External Approval) IGETC Applicability (Recommended-requires CSU/UC approval) Articulation Information CSU Transferable Methods of Evaluation Objective Examinations Example: Students will take a multiple-choice examination on Dispatching to emergencies. Standard grading. Example question: A ______ is a radio system that uses a shared bank of frequencies to make the most efficient use of radio resources. A. trunked system, B. simplex system, C. radio repeater system, D. mobile data system. Projects Example: In small groups, students will outline the differences between a volunteer, combination and fully paid fire departments and present their findings to class. Reports Example: In a report, students will list the attack options and assignments from an instructor based scenario of a garage fire in a single family home. Repeatable No Methods of Instruction Lecture/Discussion Distance Learning Lecture: The instructor will lecture on the different types of engines, ladder trucks, and aerial apparatus in the fire service. Students will work in small groups to determine which type of vehicle is best suited for a given emergency and present their findings to the class. The instructor will discuss safety issues related to a firefighter fatality. Students will collaborate in small groups to analyze issues related to making behavioral changes to avoid future fatalities. Students will prioritize what changes should be made to tactics and strategy and make recommendations for policy changes. Distance Learning Following a brief introduction video and reading assignment on dispatch systems, students will compare and contrast the various ways emergency calls can come into a dispatch system and explain how units are dispatched. Students shall then discuss this subject in a discussion board both with the instructor and other students. Typical Out of Class Assignments Reading Assignments 1. The student will read the section in the textbook on organizations related to the fire service. They will then thoroughly investigate an assigned organization and give a classroom presentation on how the organization interacts with a fire department. 2. The student will read the chapter on the Incident Command System and complete a worksheet diagramming the five major functional areas of the ICS. Writing, Problem Solving or Performance 1.
