Introduction to the texts of the Hebrew Bible ("Old Testament" or "Torah") and associated writings from the Ancient Near East. Analyzes the texts in their historical and cultural context, and surveys their various genres (poetry, prophecy, law, mythology, history, wisdom, etc.) Explores the relationship between Hebrew Scriptures and archaeology, literature, history, current Biblical scholarship, and women's studies.
