Catalog Description Hours: 36 activity per unit Description: Introductory course includes game strategy, tactics, and laws of the game. Futsal is a modified form of soccer played indoors on a hard surface with a low bouncing ball. Students develop basic skills in dribbling, passing, heading, shooting and receiving, along with offensive and defensive strategies. (CSU, UC-with unit limitation) Course Student Learning Outcomes CSLO #1: Differentiate basic futsal formations, both attacking and defending. CSLO #2: Explain the FIFA futsal laws of the game. CSLO #3: Describe the fundamental skills of futsal which include dribbling, passing, shooting, and receiving. Describe and perform futsal offensive and defensive formations and strategies. 2. Outline the international futsal rules. 3. Analyze and execute combination play. 4. Evaluate and select advanced futsal skills to allow competition in intra-class competition stressing team play. 5. Explain the concepts of fair play, honest competition and good sportsmanship. 6. Compose and perform advanced principles of attack and defense. Sample question: What is the role of the point striker in a 1-2-1 formation? Skill Demonstrations Example: Student will be able to dribble down the court and execute a shot on goal. Students dribbling will be graded based on their ability to control the ball while running and the technique used. Student shooting will be graded on the accuracy and technique of their shot on goal. Repeatable No Methods of Instruction Activity Distance Learning Activity: Instructor will facilitate a class discussion on the importance of correct technique. The students will be put into small groups and given a game situation. The students will perform the technique with and without pressure (opponent, space, or time). Instructor will present a lecture/discussion on laws of the game. Students will be assigned a law of the game to analyze and present. Students will be assigned to create their own passing pattern. Instructor will facilitate a discussion in which the strengths and weaknesses of each proposal are analyzed based on likelihood of occurring in the game. Students will be assigned to create their own pre-game warm-up format. Instructor will facilitate a discussion in which the strengths and weaknesses of each proposal are analyzed. Distance Learning Discussion by the instructor on futsal offensive and defensive formations and strategies. The students discuss this topic in small groups. Instructor will lead a discussion on international futsal rules. The students will discuss this topic in small groups. Typical Out of Class Assignments Reading Assignments 1. Read an analysis and statistics of touches on the ball in futsal vs. the touches on the ball in soccer and be prepared for a classroom discussion. 2. Read instructor-provided material on team offense and defense and be prepared to discuss in class. Writing, Problem Solving or Performance 1. Watch a futsal match and complete a match analysis in 1 page. 2. Write a 1 page paper describing the differences of style of play of the 1-2-1, the 3-1, and the 2-2 formations in futsal.
