Prerequisite: Completion of PC 832 - Arrest, POST Module III Academy Training or POST Basic Academy
Hours: 9 lecture
Description: Functional Spanish course designed for law enforcement personnel. Students learn the basic commands to complete a car stop, handcuffing and the Miranda advisement. (pass/no pass grading) (not degree applicable)

Course Objectives

1. Understand and demonstrate basic Spanish phrases and commands;
2. Differentiate the documentation for legal and illegal immigrants;
3. Assess offensive and aggressive Spanish words and phrases;
4. Apply proper Spanish phrases to conduct an investigation;
5. Demonstrate the ability to give directions and/or commands in Spanish during a vehicle stop;
6. Assess and use proper Spanish commands during a detention/arrest/handcuffing situation; and
7. Quote the Miranda Advisement in Spanish.

            Lecture:

            1. Instructor will provide and explain examples of the Spanish version of the Miranda Advisement. Students will show understanding through discussion and demonstration.
